Waldies
Griffin
Brand
products
conform
to
Indian,
British
&
American
specifications.
The
Beginning
Waldies
owes its
name to
Dr.
David
Waldie,
who was
born in
the
early
19th
century
in
Linlithgow,
Scotland.
He came
to India
and
established
in 1858
his
chemical
works to
produce
various
chemicals
including
Red
Lead, a
pigment
previously
not made
in
India.
Waldies
have
thus,
pioneered
the
chemical
industry
in India
and were
the
first,
in
India,
to
introduce
the
manufacture
of
pigments
on a
large
scale.
The
Consolidation
In the
30s with
the
technical
assistance
from one
of the
largest
manufacturers
of lead
and lead
compounds
in the
UK,
Goodlass
Wall &
Lead
Industries
Ltd.,
now
known as
Cookson
Group
plc,
modern
plants
were set
up and
the
following
four
companies
were
formed :

Ltd
On 1st
November,
1967,
the
above
four
companies
amalgamated
under
the name
of D.
WALDIE &
CO (LEAD
OXIDES)
LTD. A
year
later
the name
was
changed
to
WALDIES
LIMITED.
On
December
2006,
the
company
was
amalgamated
with
Gillanders
Arbuthnot
& Co Ltd
with
retrospective
effect
from 1st
April
2005. It
is now
Waldies
Division
of
Gillanders
Arbuthnot
& Co
Ltd.
